Originally envisioned as a family heirloom retreat, this European old-world–inspired home overlooks the Pacific Ocean. The residence features Douglas fir shiplap, handcrafted marble tile, and carved limestone mantels and fireplace surrounds throughout. Its charm lies in the thoughtful preservation of old-world details, including a hand-operated dumbwaiter, radiant heaters, button light switches, and classic belted ceiling fans.

This project takes every advantage of the views afforded by a small, difficult site. Through careful planning, the home is connected to the outdoors at every turn. 15-foot ceilings with clerestory windows allow the interior of the kitchen to be bathed with natural light. Large glass doors connect interior and exterior dining areas and allow the main living space to be opened to the water, bringing the outside in. On the lower level, a glass garage door connects the cabana to the pool terrace.
